New DNA tests available on CombiBreed

New tests have been added to our portfolio at CombiBreed. Below is an overview of the tests that can now be ordered in the webshop.

The newly available DNA tests for dogs include:

  • Mycobacterium Avium Complex (MAC) – Schnauzer: This test identifies the susceptibility to Mycobacterium Avium Complex, a bacterial infection that can lead to serious health issues.
  • Haemophilia A – Labrador Retriever: This test detects the genetic mutation responsible for Haemophilia A, a bleeding disorder that can cause severe blood loss even from minor injuries in Labrador Retrievers.
  • Cerebellar Degeneration-Myositis Complex (CDMC) – Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (NSDTR): This test screens for CDMC, a condition affecting muscle control and coordination in NSDTRs, leading to muscle weakness and movement difficulties.
  • Dyserythropoietic Anemia and Myopathy Syndrome (DAMS) – Labrador Retriever: This test identifies DAMS, a genetic condition characterized by anemia and muscle issues in Labrador Retrievers.
  • Polydactyly (LMBR1-related): Polydactyly, also known as Preaxial Polydactyly (PPD) is a developmental abnormality in dogs that causes the growth of extra toes on the hind legs. Specifically, polydactyly restores the first toe that was lost over the course of the evolution of the wolf, giving affected dogs a fifth toe known as a “dewclaw”.
  • Alpha-Mannosidosis (AMD) – Doberman: This test screens for AMD, a rare lysosomal storage disease that leads to a variety of symptoms, including skeletal abnormalities and neurological issues, in Dobermans.

In addition to individual tests, these new DNA tests have been incorporated into breed-specific testing packages for Schnauzers, Labrador Retrievers, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, and Dobermans. These comprehensive packages offer a convenient way for pet owners and breeders to screen for multiple genetic conditions relevant to their specific breed.

For cats, CombiBreed has introduced a test for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM MYH7-related). This test identifies the genetic mutation in the MYH7 gene associated with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a common heart disease in cats that can lead to heart failure and sudden death.
