Cow’s milk contains six main proteins that affect its nutritional value: Alpha-casein S1 and S2, beta-casein, kappa-casein, alpha-lactalbumin and beta -actoglobulin. Various mutations to the genes responsible for forming these proteins can alter its nutritional properties, cheese-making potential, digestibility by human consumers, etc.
This test analyses a cow’s beta-casein for the highly desirable A2 genotype mutation, which is located on the gene CSN2.

Clinical Features
Cows will produce milk containing the a mixture of the beta casein variants they carry. For example, a cow genotyped as A2/A2 will produce pure A2 milk, and a cow genotyped as A1/A2 will produce A1 and A2 beta-casein in its milk.
Additional information
This test cannot distinguish between the mutations for beta-casein A2, H2 and I. The advanced test is required for that.
