In Duroc pigs, a mutation is known to lead to embryonic lethality or spontaneous abortion. This mutation occurs on the TADA2A (transcriptional adaptor 2A) gene, which is involved in the copying of DNA within the cell.

An autosomal recessive lethal mutation in the TADA2A gene (also called DU1) is reported to cause embryonic lethality or abortion in Duroc pigs. This mutation leads to a reduction in the number of liveborn offspring in matings between carriers.
